Whole Foods Market | Ambassador Caffery
For its first store in Lafayette, Louisiana, the heart of Acadiana, Whole Foods Market turned to the community for inspiration: the dark and mysterious landscape merges with the local lively culture to craft a unique place. In a nod to the frugality and thriftiness of Cajun cuisine, the color, material, and graphic palettes are pared down to simple elements that are recombined throughout the space. A famous ancient oak tree that lives by St. John Cathedral is featured as an over-size pattern above the produce department; the Spanish moss that drips from cypress swamp trees is recreated as a subtle reminder of the local flora. Throughout the store, layered graphics allude to bright and uptempo Zydeco music.
Our furniture package picks up those cues. The exterior of the bar – the first of its kind inside a grocery store in the state of Louisiana – is designed to appear like a transplanted swamp shack. Inside, however, the shack aesthetic transforms as all materials get an upgrade. The plush, tufted bar stools showcase purple velvet alligator pattern upholstery on gold metallic bases. The table and bar surfaces are hand-crafted from locally-sourced red and white oak.
