Whole Foods Market | Del Mar
Del Mar is a summertime seaside destination whose race track inspired Bing Crosby’s classic “Where The Turf Meets The Surf.” This store’s environmental design includes an abstract interpretation of the sandstone bluffs found in the surrounding community, and patterns that evoke fun at the annual Del Mar County Fair and that reference jockey stripes and stitching found in horse riding elements. The store’s community mark is a torrey pine, a tree native to and emblematic of Del Mar and its surrounding communities. The tree’s canopy leans in only one direction, representing the wind-swept character of much of the area’s oceanfront vegetation. A large hand-painted mural carries an artist’s representation of the topology of the Del Mar community and features the hills, the beach, the surf, the ocean, and the sun.
The store also features four distinct dining areas with comfortable, custom furniture. The furniture in The Trifecta Tavern is inspired by the Atomic Ranch mid-century modern architecture style of the surrounding communities. Custom couches, arm chairs, coffee tables, and other furniture are all modeled after notable pieces from that design movement. A set of banquettes along the interior storefront are raised on a platform and designed to resemble individual seats. All combine to provide guests different settings in which to enjoy their dining experience.
Beyond their design, our team coordinated the fabrication and installation schedule for both environmental decor and furniture, and we were on site to ensure the proper installation of both.
