Working with YOLO

pic_fourcans2About two years ago, I discovered YOLO Colorhouse paints. I immediately loved their color palette and since, at the time, they were one of just a handful of zero-VOC paint options available, they became a staple in our materials library. We specified it for a couple of Whole Foods Market projects, but only last week did we actually get a chance to work with the paint personally. And it is awesome!

We were painting our new office, and I was responsible for all the details close to the floor. At one point, I allowed my face to get just a bit too close to the little bowl of paint I was using, and I realized I couldn’t smell the paint! I literally couldn’t. We did one entire coat, and we still couldn’t smell anything. It was great. It was only when we gave that first coat some time to dry that we discerned a definitive smell, but it was so light that increasing the air circulation made the room smell sufficiently pleasant. Our one coat did cover the walls extremely well, which confirmed the claim I had heard from several product reps that one coat will usually do. However, we still did two coats, and the result is truly beautiful. We are delighted with the shade we picked (Water .03); it’s cool and calming, and at certain times of the day, it’s a gorgeous match for the sky outside.

Yes, the product is more expensive than a standard option. We bought only two gallons, for which we paid about $90.00. For bigger projects, though, I know there are definitely some discounts that can be had, which would help make this a more affordable option. All in all, it’s a product we would recommend to anyone.
